Costa Mesa ranks as the 10th largest retail power among California cities, according to the California Retail Survey and generates, by far, the most retail revenue for a city its size (see chart below).

Also, three of Costa Mesa's retail centers are in the top 20 of revenue-generating Orange County retail complexes, led by South Coast Plaza's $1.4 billion in annual sales (more than double its nearest competitor).
