Dear Sgt. Davis:
It is my sincere pleasure to inform you that you have been selected as the recipient of the Costa Mesa Mayor's Award for January 2006. The Mayor's Award Program was designed to recognize individuals in our City who have served the community through acts of professionalism and dedicated service.

Last summer, you were called to the scene of a complicated situation, where a local man was upset and ready to take his own life. You quickly responded by showing compassion to this man and providing reassurance, in a moment of extreme confusion and a potentially adverse situation.

As a result of your sincere and comforting words, you calmed this man and provided him with a sense of hope and a new perspective. I believe that your response in this situation assured this individual that there is always a reason to maintain hope and that people in our community really do care about one another.

On behalf of the City Council, I am most appreciative of the professional service you have provided and the leadership you have shown to our community through this sincere act of kindness and guidance. You have demonstrated that our understanding and compassion for one another is what binds our community. As you have already confirmed with my office, you will be publicly honored at the City Council meeting of Tuesday, January 17, 2006.
