MISS ADELINA HERNANDEZ
June 26, 2006
Miss Adelina Hernandez Costa Mesa, California 92627
It is my sincerest pleasure to inform you that you have been selected as the July 2006 recipient of Costa Mesa’s Mayor’s Award! The Mayor’s Award Program was designed to recognize individuals in the community who have displayed exemplary qualities of leadership and volunteerism, or have performed an outstanding act of service.
It was brought to my attention by Costa Mesa Corporal Garth Wilson that on June 7, 2006, you witnessed a felony hit-and-run traffic collision. The collision resulted in substantial injuries to a motorcyclist and his passenger. What so greatly impressed Corporal Wilson is that there were many on-lookers who saw what happened, but only you came forward to provide information. Your keen observations and clear descriptions resulted in capture of the suspect by the Costa Mesa Police. Adelina, without your assistance, the investigation and search to find the suspects would have been much more difficult.
Thank you for your courage, bravery and strength of character. Taking the initiative to help our officers in the manner you did is truly an extraordinary deed. I am impressed that a young lady of your age (11 years old), demonstrated such awareness, courage, and involvement. You have shown that young people truly can make a difference in their community. On behalf of City Council and the citizens of Costa Mesa, I commend you for your outstanding act of service.
As you have already confirmed with my staff, we will publicly honor you at the City Council meeting of Wednesday, July 5, 2006. The meeting will take place in Council Chambers at 6:00 p.m. at Costa Mesa City Hall, 77 Fair Drive. We look forward to honoring you in this way.
