Christine Zoldos
Tustin, California 92780

Dear Ms. Zoldos:

It is my great pleasure to inform you that you have been selected as one of the recipients of the Costa Mesa Mayor's Award for January 2007. The Mayor's Award Program recognizes individuals in our City who have demonstrated volunteerism and participation through community service.

By defending the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance at Associated Students of Orange Coast College proceedings, you have played an important role in affirming the virtue of our traditions. I admire your willingness to engage in substantive debate over the roles and meanings of our institutions, and I applaud your strength in the face of both opposition and controversy. You have been instrumental in maintaining the honor and integrity of our civic customs, as well as in demonstrating the importance of public dialogue.

On behalf of our City, I would like to express appreciation for your service to Orange Coast College as well as the larger community. Honest and open debate is critical to the continued progress and prosperity of our society, and I thank you for your dedication to our democratic ideals. As you have already confirmed with my staff, we will publicly honor you at the City Council meeting of Tuesday, January 16th in Council Chambers located at 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, California.

Sincerely,

Allan R. Mansoor
Mayor
