Dear Ms. Yvonne Brown,

I am saddened to learn of Stan's passing, and extend my sincere condolences to you and your family. Stan made a huge impression on many of your prior neighbors in Costa Mesa, and upon hearing of his fate, many called upon me to honor Stan. For this reason, I am writing to inform you that Stan has been selected as the recipient of the Costa Mesa Mayor's Award. The City of Costa Mesa Mayor's Award Program was established to recognize and appreciate members of the community who have displayed qualities of leadership, community involvement, and volunteerism. As you know, Stan helped to establish the Mesa North Community Association, the Mesa North Security Patrol, and the Mesa North Crime Prevention Committee in Costa Mesa. Stan was an excellent citizen and volunteer who took a sincere interest and concern for his neighbors and neighborhood. He constantly tried to improve safety and security against crime and traffic problems.

Although Stan liked to bring attention to problems he observed in the neighborhood, he was also a man of action. Stan took the lead and worked with the Committee to hire and partner with a private security company to patrol the neighborhood. Stan's efforts encouraged neighbors to voluntarily pay for the private security services and as a result, the neighborhood became a safer place to live and play. He diligently kept the neighborhood up-to-date with the latest crime prevention information to help neighbors apprehend offenders and to alert the community to potential problems. Stan's genuine love of his community was evident when he graciously opened his home to use for the Committee's monthly meetings.

Stan was a tremendous asset to the community and to the Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD). He volunteered countless hours with the false alarm program to review and deliver judgment on the claims against alarm companies and their accompanying complaints. He continually offered support to the CMPD and Area II officers to assist them in doing their job, and always offered encouragement and thanks for their efforts.

Even though Stan is no longer with us, it is imperative that we fully recognize his dedication, enthusiasm, energy, and contributions to public safety and to the partnerships he helped establish between police and citizens. On behalf of the City Council, I would like to express my deepest appreciation for Stan's outstanding service to the City of Costa Mesa.

I would be honored for you to receive the Mayor's Award on behalf of Stan. As you have confirmed with my secretary, Stan will be honored at the October 21st City CounCil meeting. The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers located at 77 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. If you have any questions or should need to get in touch with my office, please contact Chris Goldsworthy at (714) 754-5327.
