The Wiz

This groundbreaking twist on The Wizard of Oz changed the face of Broadway—from its iconic score packed with soul, gospel, rock, and 70s funk to its stirring tale of Dorothy’s journey to find her place in a contemporary world. 

With direction by Schele Williams (The Notebook, revival of Disney’s Aida), choreography by JaQuel Knight (Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies,” Black Is King) and additional material by Tony-nominated and Emmy-nominated writer and TV host Amber Ruffin (The Amber Ruffin Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers), this dynamite infusion of ballet, jazz, and modern pop brings a whole new groove to easing on down the road.  Everybody rejoice!

Embark on an exhilarating journey through the heart of Latin America as the Minería Symphony Orchestra of Mexico makes its Orange County debut under the dynamic direction of Carlos Miguel Prieto in a spectacular night of vibrant, passionate music.  

The program features a dazzling array of works that explore the rich cultural tapestry of Latin America, including a work by Paquito d’Rivera, whose work won them a Latin Grammy for Best Classical Composition. With the bold, cinematic sounds of Silvestre Revueltas, this concert promises to captivate from start to finish. Adding an extra layer of brilliance to the performance, Pacho Flores will infuse the evening with his signature fiery, virtuosic trumpet playing.

Segerstrom Center is so fortunate to have a rich history with this great lady of the stage and we are eagerly awaiting her return in the 25th Anniversary of her acclaimed theatrical concert Matters of the Heart, which she performed for extended runs on Broadway, London’s West End, as well on tour nationally and internationally.

In Matters of the Heart, LuPone takes the audience on an exploration of the crimes, affairs and the mysteries of the heart, with electrifying performances of over two dozen love songs ranging from Broadway favorites to works by today’s top contemporary songwriters.

What happens to Cinderella at the ball…game?  The classic fairy tales gets a modern makeover as a bouncy, bilingual musical. Sweet Cenicienta, a.k.a. Cinderella, speaks only Spanish.  Rosa, the coolest, most self-centered basketball player in school, speaks only English—and she’s making things extra difficult for Cinderella. Who will Coach Prince choose to play in the Super Dooper Eastern Western Division Basketball Game? This salsa and hip-hop filled story about sportsmanship and respect will have you cheering in your seat!

As Alberto Ginastera's Concerto for Strings takes us toward a triumphant crescendo, you will join us in a jubilant celebration of the human spirit's indomitable resilience and our unwavering commitment to the pursuit of peace. We reflect on themes of war, anguish, and loss through Ruben Rengel's setting of Prokofiev's "Stalingrad" Sonata. Jessie Montgomery's music helps us transcend boundaries and borders, while our vision for shared humanity is brought together through Quenton Blache's title composition.

Take inspiration from artist Griselda Rosas, who works collaboratively with her son to combine his watercolor paintings with colorful embroidery. Participants will use watercolor on fabric and then introduce simple stitches and embroidery techniques to add texture and detail!
