Prepare for Emergencies and Disasters

Earthquakes, fires, and floods are examples of unexpected disasters that can result in catastrophic loss of life and property. These and other disasters can strike at anytime, anywhere, and without warning. You may be forced to evacuate your home or neighborhood or be confined to your home. The City of Costa Mesa Office of Emergency Management recommends all citizens to be prepared for all emergencies. The City works closely with our regional emergency management partners and the community to enhance resiliency and improve preparedness.

When a disaster strikes, local first responders will be mobilized, but cannot reach everyone in our City right away. Your neighbors will likely be the first one to offer help. What will you do if basic services (water, power, landline, and cellular telephones were cut off? Preparing in advance can help you and your family cope with disasters. Review our all-hazards Emergency Preparedness Guide for critical information that is intended to empower residents to take ownership of their personal preparedness and be ready when disaster strikes!

Disaster ready residents contribute to the overall safety of our City and be a resource to their family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers during a disaster.
