Mike BuleyIn November of 2024, Mike Buley was elected to represent Costa Mesa’s District 1 for a four-year term.

Mike and his wife, Adriana, moved to the Mesa Verde neighborhood of Costa Mesa 21 years ago after their second child was born and have lived and raised their family here which included the addition of a third child.  Faith and family are important to Mike whose children all attended St John the Baptist School and then continued their education at Mater Dei.  Mike has served the community as a volunteer on SJB’s advisory Finance Committee, coaching basketball and softball at SJB, and countless volunteer hours during the years his son played Costa Mesa Little League.

Mike’s childhood was spent in Upstate New York until his family moved to Houston, Texas during his high school years and he then commenced his college education at the University of Texas, Austin on an academic scholarship.  His family moved to Huntington Beach in 1985 and Mike followed and completed his undergrad education at Cal State Long Beach where he continues to be a season ticket holder for Dirt Bag Baseball.  He earned his law degree from Western State in Fullerton where he graduated with honors, was a published member of its Law Review, and was selected to clerk for a semester at the 4th District Division 3 Appellate Court in the Chambers of Chief Justice David Sills.

Mike has been a civil litigation trial attorney for over 30 years, the last 25 years as owner of his own firm.  He tried his first case within weeks of passing the Bar and being sworn in.  His trial work has led him to successfully try cases in State and Federal Courts throughout California and Arizona.  He has litigated cases alongside City attorneys and the California Attorney General’s office.

Although Mike had not planned to include elected office as part of his public service, he was humbled when community friends and neighbors encouraged him to run and be their voice on City issues.  Mike hopes to use his time on the Council to encourage civil debate on the issues impacting the City, including how to manage development, crime, homeless and budgetary issues which all impact the quality of life here in Costa Mesa.
